Dhakkan Lagao Zindagi Bachao (Open Manhole Campaign,) where every cover placed is a step towards saving lives and ensuring safer streets in Karachi.
Our journey began with a simple yet powerful mission: to address the overlooked issue of open manholes that posed a grave danger to the community. In a bold move to highlight the urgency of the matter, Alamgir Khan, the founder of Fixit, sketched the then Chief Minister of Sindh, Mr. Qaim Ali Shah, alongside an open manhole, symbolizing the consequences of bad governance on the city’s safety.
When government action was not forthcoming, Fixit took matters into its own hands. On January 3rd, 2024, we launched our campaign to cover open manholes, one by one, with the help of generous donors and dedicated volunteers. Since then, we’ve covered thousands of open manholes, preventing accidents and saving lives in the process.
But our work is far from over. With your support, we can continue to make our streets safer and protect the lives of our fellow citizens. Join us in our mission to save lives, one manhole cover at a time.
